Contract Coding - Inpatient & Outpatient

 Process

St. Clair is using its AHIMA credentialed consultants to perform, off-site via the client’s electronic medical record system, contract coding for hospitals to assist in eliminating their backlogs in the original coding of inpatient cases and/or outpatient encounters.

In coding such referred inpatient (IP) records, St. Clair will determine whether there is sufficient chart documentation to meet the "Present on Admission (POA)" criteria to justify admitting the patient and will assign the proper inpatient ICD-9 coding and cite supporting documentation in the patient chart, as well as applicable references from Coding Clinic. In coding such referred "emergency (ER), observation, urgent care (UC), ambulatory surgery, and outpatient diagnostic" records, St. Clair will assign the proper ICD-9/CPT/HCPCS/revenue codes and cite supporting documentation in the patient chart, as well as applicable references from the CPT Assistant. Also, for ER and UC records, St. Clair will assign the applicable Evaluation and Management (E&M) code and cite supporting documentation in the chart, relative to the clinical care provided.

Pricing Approach

The St. Clair professional fee for an off-site inpatient coding/MS-DRG review by our consultants is competitively priced per record coded.
